Ceratitis capitata

  • Ceratitis capitata

The Mediterranean Fruit Fly, also known as Medfly (Ceratitis capitata), is an economic threat to many fleshy-fruit crops. The larvae feed on and develop in the fleshy fruit when they are close to ripening. The economic impact is felt in both large-scale crop losses and with quarantines and export limitations. The Mediterranean Fruit Fly is found in tropical and subtropical warm regions such as the Mediterranean, Africa, Latin America and some regions of Australia and Argentina.
