  • Chilo suppressalis

The Rice Stem Borer, or Asian Rice Stem Borer (Chilo suppressalis), is a damaging moth pest for rice growers. The damage is caused by the larvae boring into the rice stems where they feed and develop to maturity. This results in damaged grain and makes the plant more sensitive to breakage. This pest is widespread in Southern Asia, China, Australia and the Mediterranean.
